Dark Corners - Review and Contest

Dark Corners by Liz Schulte

Goodreads:

Ella Reynolds knew from the first moment she walked into the old house someone or something was watching her. Waiting. Her husband's violent murder sent her spiraling into a world of grief and isolation, but Ella isn't alone. Who or what is responsible for her husband's death is still with her. Darkness has engulfed the past year of Ella's life. Everyday reality slips a little more between her fingers as she struggles to break free from her memories. She must look deeper into her past as well as the present to discover truth of her husband's homicide. A string of uncanny events takes place and practical explanations run thin as Ella follows the terrifying road to closure. As the past and present come to a head, Ella must decipher who or what the murderer is before it takes her as well.

Review:

Ella Reynolds is in a very dark place. Strange happenings have occurred in her husbands family home, since the moment they moved in.  She hears unusual noises, voices, and footsteps. Objects are moved, items have gone missing, yet nobody believes her. Her husband, Danny, acts as though these bizarre events are the product of Ella's overactive imagination, after all she is a writer. To make matters worse, he makes fun of her in front of their friends about the things that she sees and hears. It seems that everybody thinks that Ella is losing her mind.  Things only get worse when Danny is brutally murdered in their home, making Ella the prime suspect.

Ella tries to numb herself with alcohol and medication prescribed by a psychiatrist that she doesn't even trust.  When Ella meets a mysteriously friendly stranger at the local bar, everything begins to change. With the help of an overly dedicated police detective, Ella is determined to get to the bottom of things.

Dark Corners is excellent! Liz Schulte did a wonderful job of keeping me guessing.  I couldn't tell if Ella was crazy or if the house was truly haunted!  When the truth finally did come out it was a complete surprise,  but I won't give it away!  Mystery, suspense, paranormal, and subtle romance all wrapped up in one great novel!

  14. I notice that the other blogs that are running a comparable contest are using rafflecopter, but if you are doing so, it would not load for me. Therefore I do not know what types of extra entries would be appropriate for this contest.
